    Sheriff Susan L. Pamerleau
"...Service to others motivates and inspires me whether it's by serving in the Air Force, working in the business arena at USAA or, now, moving into community and public service. There is so much we can do to make this world a better place. A life of service is a wonder-filled adventure! Come join me!"

~ Excerpt from

SUSAN L. PAMERLEAU  is the Sheriff of Bexar County.  The Office of Sheriff serves as the chief law enforcement officer for the county and is also responsible for all judicial support including court security and oversees the operations of the Bexar County Adult Detention Center.  She was elected to the postion on November 6, 2012, becoming the first woman to be elected to the post.
As Sheriff, Pamerleau has pledged her commitment to the people of Bexar County, enacting guiding principles to ensure the Sheriff's Office is run professionally and with operational excellence.  Her number one priority as Sheriff is public safety, on a strong foundation of stewardship of tax-payer dollars; improvements in jail operations; and family violence prevention initiatives, a topic on which she is a nationally-recognized speaker.
Pamerleau's lifetime of service to our nation and community is highlighted with leadership, duty, honor, and excellence.  She has achieved the highest levels of success in both the public and private sectors.
She began her 32-year career in the United States Air Force when fewer than one-percent of the Armed Forces were women, and rose to the rank of Major General.  During her Air Force career she served in the Pentagon developing  plans, programs, and budget requirements for personnel programs, and base realignment and closure actions.  As part of the international Military Staff for NATO in Brussels, Belgium, she advised the NATO Military Committee and the North Atlantic Council on topics regarding strategic and force planning, nuclear policy, and arms control and disarmament.  She served in personnel management positions in Washington, D.C., and Texas and commanded the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC) at Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama and the Air Force Personnel Center at Randolph Air Force Base in Texas.  She received numerous major awards and decorations, including the Distinguished Service Medal, the Defense Superior Service Medal, and the Legion of Merit.
After her retirement from the Air Force, she also served in the highest levels of the corporate world, as Senior Vice President at USAA, a Fortune 150 company, and serves on the board of directors for Government Personnel Mutual Life Insurance Company.
Sheriff Pamerleau received her Masters degree in Public Administration (MPA) from Golden Gate University in San Francisco.  Philips University conferred an honorary Doctorate degree on Pamerleau in 1998.  She received her Bachelor's degree in Sociology from the University of Wyoming.
